What it means to be part of the NHS Test and Trace Labs

Sometimes the opportunity comes along to be a part of something really special. Working at one of our dedicated NHS Test & Trace laboratories across the UK, you will have the opportunity to be a part of history, helping us to recover from a national emergency. The world has never faced a pandemic quite like this in modern times and you will be part of the UK’s national COVID-19 testing.

Your work is critical to help us break chains of transmission. You will be part of a highly motivated and passionate group of people, who have come together from across the country, to work on one central cause. The world is relying on scientists to do what they do best and help us break chains of COVID-19 transmission, to enable people to return towards and maintain a more normal way of life.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with state of the art equipment to produce automated science and if you’re joining our Rosalind Franklin laboratory in Royal Leamington Spa, you’ll also be working in one of the largest diagnostic laboratories in the world.

Whether you’ll join us as a Warehouse Operative, Junior Lab Technician or a Bioscientist Lead, we are all working towards one objective; to mass test for COVID-19 in order to find people with active infection who are asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. This is so that quarantine and rapid finding and testing of close contacts can interrupt spread. Winter poses an increased risk to the spread of the virus and it’s therefore vital that we continue to escalate our testing efforts.​

Early in your career

Due to the large scale nature of our laboratories there is room to grow from junior to senior lab technicians, and into supervisory and management roles. We welcome university graduates and offer training and accreditation of skills that can accelerate your career.

There are multiple stages in the testing process as so your day to day duties can vary, giving you variety in your work and expanding your skillset.

Are you experienced in your field, or even one of the very best? Working as part of the national testing efforts of COVID-19 you can gain exposure to working in what will be one of the largest diagnostic laboratories in the country with other experts in the field.

Our roles incorporate revolutionary automated science with our state of the art technology creating bespoke processes for the testing process. This will allow you to stay current and put you at the forefront of your field.

We offer competitive rates of pay (with an uplift applied for night working). You will receive comprehensive training on relevant lab procedures and equipment.

NHS Test and Trace is becoming part of the National Institute of Health Protection (NIHP). The NIHP’s primary focus is to ensure we have the best capability to protect people from external threats to this country’s health such as other pandemics, biological weapons, and infectious diseases of all kinds. To control infectious disease and deal with pandemics or health protection crises now and in the future.
