We're currently seeking Medical Laboratory Assistants based in and around Ipswich to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

As an MLA, you will be responsible for sample receipt, numbering and data entry on to the computer system. Make judgements in accordance with policies and procedures to identify, action and report mislabelled or mislaid specimens, unsuitable sample or process failure.

Day to day activities in your role as an MLA will include:

  • Under supervision, perform a range of laboratory activities accurately and efficiently.

  • Supports quality control processes.

  • Participate in the day to day management of stock control and usage.

  • Assist in the introduction of new processes and systems.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

  • Use equipment in a safe manner and report any equipment faults to a more senior member of staff.

  • Participate in processing samples for Research and Development, clinical trials and equipment testing.

Your experience:

In order to be successful in the role of our MLA, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Education:

  • BSc in a relevant Scientific discipline

Experience:

  • Practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
  • Knowledge of Pathology IT systems
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
  • Willingness to undertake cross training to extend skill set to deliver role
  • Good communication skills,
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills - can work as part of a team.
  • Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time
  • Manual dexterity appropriate to activities associated with post
