We're currently seeking highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientists based in and around Liverpool to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

This role will provide the laboratory with an experienced biomedical scientist (BMS). They will be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory quality assurance protocols are being followed. In addition, they will be responsible for the interpretation and authorisation of results as required. They will also assist the laboratory shift manager, and other laboratory personnel, to carry out troubleshooting of the assays should issues arise. Will be responsible for the validation and authorisation of results.

Your experience:

To be successful in this role, you should not work outside of your defined field of competence. This role also requires you to be experienced in molecular biology methods.

In order to be successful, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Education:

  • Biomedical Science degree
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development

Experience:

  • Experience of training and supervising staff in a laboratory setting
  • Extensive experience in using a variety of PCR methods
  • Using end-point PCR methods
  • RNA extraction studies

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Can work with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail.

In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:

Education:

  • Additional appropriate specialist qualification if required
  • Higher-level degree/qualification e.g. MSc, Higher Specialist portfolio

Experience:

  • Working with pathology IT
  • Viral RNA testing using real-time (RT) PCR methodology

Skills

  • Knowledge of Quality Management Services
  • Knowledge/Performance of Risk Assessments
