Fixed Term Contract

We're currently seeking Associate Practitioner based in and around Brants Bridge, Bracknell to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme, helping society's return to a more normal way of life.

What you can expect:

  • To undertake sample reception, preparation, analysis and recording of results in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Liaise with line manager as part of a team delivering a high-quality protocol based technical service under the supervision of scientific staff
  • Required to communicate with a range of colleagues and external suppliers/stakeholders
  • Required to operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform scientific techniques under supervision
  • Appropriately handle body fluids and materials, including high risk specimens
  • To report results in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and as appropriate to grade
  • To act as supervisor for support grade staff members as agreed with the laboratory management team
  • The post holder will be expected to train, support, and advise less experienced staff, such as trainees, students, and Medical Laboratory Assistants

What we're looking for:

This position will be ideal for those seeking to take the next step within their scientific research career, also suitable for graduates with some experience working in a laboratory environment and a clear understanding of the health and safety protocols in a lab environment.

  • BSc Honours degree in a Biology based subject or Life Sciences
  • Experience in a laboratory setting (academic, clinical, or industrial)
  • Experience of using a biosafety cabinet
  • A comprehensive understanding of health and safety protocols in a lab environment
  • Evidence of strong communication and team-working skills
  • Evidence of excellent attention to detail

In return:

We offer an initial 6-week agency contract for this role, which will develop into an FTC contract employed directly by the NHS Trust which runs until 31st March 2022 upon a successful trial period.

Working hours and shift times

This role operates a 3 on 3 off shift rotation, 12-hour shifts, alternating between day and night shifts every 12 days, including weekends. Please speak to a member of the recruitment team for further details, shifts are fixed and non-flexible.
