We're currently seeking Newcastle-based Senior Scientists to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you be working as a senior member of the COVID-19 Hub Laboratory. The post holder will play a key role in the establishment, development and operation of the laboratory, and the provision of an end to end service, linking the development needs of Industry with the capability and assets of the Newcastle Hospital Foundation Trust to enable rapid adoption of molecular diagnostics into high volume testing facilities.

Your experience:

This role requires you to be experienced and have in depth knowledge of molecular diagnostic work and experience in research and development.

In order to be successful, you'll need the following skills and qualifications:


Education:

  • BSc (Hons) degree in relevant science subject or equivalent qualification
  • MSc, FIBMS, MPhil, PhD or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Health & Care Professions Council registration

Experience:

  • Extensive experience and in depth knowledge of Molecular Diagnostic Work
  • Experience in Research and Development
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimum direction
  • Effective computer and keyboard skills including the ability to manipulate simple software packages with appropriate training and an ability to utilise traditional applications such as Microsoft Outlook
  • Promote and partake in Continuous Professional Development

In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:

Experience:

  • Career aspirations in the NHS
  • Familiarity with ISO 15189:12
  • Experience of cross site working and organisational change
  • Keenness to embrace new challenges, forge new partnerships and explore potential for innovation
