Fixed Term Contract - Full Time

We're currently seeking Plymouth based Sample Handlers to work within a high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

This opportunity for Sample Handlers requires individuals with the right mindset to support the smooth running of the laboratory.

Your responsibilities:

  • taking receipt of samples
  • removing exterior packaging (unboxing)
  • working in a controlled area to remove clinical samples from safety bags (unbagging)
  • transferring clinical samples to the laboratory
  • accurate record keeping
  • identifying samples unsuitable for testing
  • removing packaging waste

This role requires the following skills:

Essential

  • A courteous manner
  • Good communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to follow specific instructions
  • Ability to work productively within a team
  • Understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures relative to the role

Desirable

  • Manual handling skills

Education:

  • Good standard of general education GCSE maths or English (or equivalent).

In return:

As well as a competitive rate of pay of £9.89 / hour (with an uplift applied for nights to £12.44/Hr). The contract is intially until the end of September 2022.

You'll receive comprehensive training on relevant lab procedures and equipment during induction.

This role works on a shift pattern of 8am-8pm days and 8pm-8am nights. With 4 days on 4 days off. This will change monthly. Therefore, a month of days and a month of nights.
