We're currently seeking Plymouth-based Laboratory Shift Managers to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

  • The post-holder is responsible for the operational planning, organisation and delivery of the quality diagnostic Pathology services for the designated shift.
  • The post-holder is responsible for ensuring that all accreditation standards set by national bodies, including UKAS are met, is part of the job role, and understanding the use of ISO 15189: 2012 standards. This ensures the department is delivering a safe service for the staff and its users.
  • The post-holder will provide professional leadership to Scientific, Technical and Support staff within their designated shift.
  • The post-holder will manage the Departmental Specialities in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Trust.
  • The post holder will directly manage a group of staff including Scientific, Technical and support staff.
  • The post holder in collaboration with the Laboratory Managers, will provide a timely, high quality, accurate and cost effective service.
  • The post holder will ensure the timely processing of patient samples, resulting in approximately 40,000 tests per day

Your experience:

Successful candidates need to have:

  • Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS) by examination or hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or hold an equivalent qualification in a Clinical Pathology discipline or demonstrable experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge of the Pathology of disease in one or more disciplines within Microbiology
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in the technical field of a Pathology discipline
  • Advanced analytical, scientific and technical skills commensurate with the Pathology speciality and seniority of the post-holder
  • Significant experience in a Senior role in a Pathology Laboratory within a Department, which handles a total workload of 500k patient requests per annum.
  • Previous experience of staff development, performance and conduct management, sickness absence management
  • Previous experience of successful management of change
  • Training experience
  • A working knowledge and practical application of a Pathology IT system
