Laboratory Equipment Manager / Calibration Technician - Part-Time Night Shift

We have several opportunities experienced Laboratory Equipment Managers / Calibration Technicians based in Warwickshire who are comfortable working within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

As a Laboratory Equipment Manager, you will be responsible for managing the equipment needed for patient sample processing.

You will be the first port of call for equipment failure investigation and diagnosis where possible. Additionally, you will also be responsible for contacting the relevant equipment engineer and ensuring the correct tools/services are present for the resolution of equipment issues.

You will then oversee any repairs and ensure the correct documentation is produced and completed by the relevant personnel following a report and repair.

As Lab Equipment Manager, you will also be responsible for lab equipment upkeep. To this end you will need to liaise with the purchasing department (the people who physically arrange for repairs/servicing payments) and the legal team (to make sure contracts are in place for this).

You will also be responsible for communication of equipment failure to wider teams e.g senior management, logistics/process team and all activities must be completed to the laboratory's accreditation standards.

This role requires individuals who are keen to problem solve and think critically about the issues in hand.

Your experience:

In order to be successful in the role of Laboratory Equipment Manager, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Education:

  • BSc Honours degree in a biological science

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a laboratory setting (academic, clinical or industrial)
  • Experience of using a biosafety cabinet
  • Experience of using and troubleshooting PCR related equipment
  • Experience of maintaining documents and procedures within laboratory accreditation specifications (ISO15189:2012 / ISO17025:2019)
  • A comprehensive understanding of health and safety protocols in a lab environment

Skills:

  • Evidence of excellent communication and team-working skills
  • Evidence of excellent attention to detail
  • Evidence of organisation skills

As well as a competitive rate of pay (with a 20% uplift applied for night working and a retention bonus), you'll receive comprehensive training on relevant lab procedures and equipment.

This role will work on one of the following shift patterns and will require full flexibility:

  • Part time night shift: 24 hours across 2 days (Thursday and Friday)
  • Weekend nights: 24 hours across 2 days (Saturday and Sunday)

We do also offer alternative shift options available, as follows:

  • Daytime (please note you will be required to work one weekend day per week on this shift)
  • Sunrise
  • Full-time nights
