Fixed Term Contract

We're currently seeking Lab Technicians based in and around Plymouth to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme, helping society's return to a more normal way of life.

What you can expect:

  • part of a clinical support team whose purpose is to provide timely and accurate high-quality scientific information that will assist service users from the hospital and community, in the establishment of a clinical diagnosis.
  • You will work as part of a team and carry out varied tasks including primary specimen preparation, RNA extraction and data manipulation using the laboratory networked computer system.
  • You'll need to ensure that processes are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the laboratory's required standards, performing the role in accordance with technical documents and SOPs compliant with the laboratory's accredited standards.
  • Actively participate in general laboratory duties including preparation of workstations at the start of a shift and cleaning down stations at the end of a shift. There will also be the requirement to store, retrieve and dispose of clinical specimens.
  • The poster holder will use practical skills to carry out tasks associated with the pre-analytical preparation of specimens within the COVID Hub Laboratory. Full training and supervision will be provided.

What we're looking for:

In order to be successful, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Education:

  • Foundation Degree in Health Care Science or equivalent level qualification

Skills:

  • Effective computer and keyboard skills
  • Organised and methodical
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise work
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-organisation and the ability to prioritise.
  • Follow protocols and instructions accurately
  • Understand basic scientific techniques.

This role will be working day and night shift patterns from 8am-8pm, or 8pm-8am, 4 days on, 4 days off. You'll switch from day to night shift on a monthly basis.

Please be aware that Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including a media check is the required level of screening for all staff working at the Leamington Spa Laboratory.
