In this role you will have the opportunity to:

Purpose of Role:

  • Support the Health and Safety manager in Health & Safety matters on the Rosalind Franklin Laboratory site.

Your Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • To supporting compliance of the Health & Safety processes and documentation at Rosalind Franklin Laboratory to meet the requirements of the regulations and the Health and Safety Executive, UKHSA and the regulatory standards of the services provided.
  • Assist with driving continuous improvements in Health & Safety at Rosalind Franklin Laboratory.
  • Work with the Operations colleagues and management to ensure that all aspects of Health & Safety are maintained: RIDDOR reporting and management, Accident/Incident reporting management, COSHH documentation, MSDS documents, Risk Assessments, and all other Health & Safety records.
  • Act as an Audit Lead for assigned Health & Safety audits on the site.
  • Adhere to a schedule of assigned internal H&S audits that are planned; ensuring that all observations arising are addressed.
  • Assist with the liaison with the Managers to ensure the timely completion of all health & safety documentation.
  • Assisting the H&S Manager in ensuring that all personnel are trained to an appropriate level to comply with all necessary health & safety requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring that Health & Safety KPIs are collected and reported to Site Management Team as required.
  • At all times, adopt a safe behaviour by exercising due regard for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues and clients, in line with the Company's policies and procedures.

Current Challenges and Opportunities:

  • Support the development and implementation of a new H&S management system, including policies, manual, procedures and templated records/documents to ensure that Regulatory requirements are met.
  • Follow and suggest improvement to SOPs, guidance documents etc.
  • Helping to train staff
  • Helping to implement a "right first time" and "safe working" culture throughout the site

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills & experience:

  • Significant experience of working within a Health & Safety Team in a regulated environment through successive external audit cycles.
  • Significant experience of operating within Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems of operational laboratory environments.
  • Tech-IOSH is essential, Grad IOSH desirable
  • Significant experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders on all areas of health & Safety.
  • Experience in conducting audits.

A team player, with good leadership skills, management planning, communication and change orientation in a fast paced environment.

Education:

  • Sc. in relevant subject essential. M.Sc. in relevant subject desirable
