We're currently seeking Cornwall-based Specialist Biomedical Scientists (HCPC registered) who will work as a key member of the department team, which is responsible for the effective operational and strategic direction of Pathology Services.

Your responsibilities:

  • The post-holder will assist the management team delivering a quality and responsive clinical and technical service for the Trust and associated stakeholders and partners, providing professional leadership and line management for the staff
  • In conjunction with the senior staff, the post-holder will assist in identifying service pressures and devising action plans or business cases / plans as appropriate
  • The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the department meets quality targets such as turn-around times and consistency of test results
  • Supervise staff, organise and prioritise workload to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Ensure lower grades of scientific and scientific support staff comply with Health and Safety protocols as set out in relevant documentation and that laboratory and surrounding area also comply with Health and Safety.
  • Assist in the production of all Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory
  • Engage with the QMS and instil a quality culture in the laboratory
  • Engage in the implementation and development of laboratory systems.
  • Engage with the departmental competency programme.
  • Ensure that goods are ordered and monitored in a timely fashion.
  • Perform appraisals.

Your experience:

  • Successful candidates need to have:
  • BMS Degree or equivalent.
  • Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Specialist portfolio or equivalent.
  • Relevant laboratory experience.
  • Able to perform complex laboratory tasks and assays.
  • Able to understand and deal with abnormal results.
  • Able to deal with IQC and EQA.
  • Good interpretive skills.
