We're currently seeking two HCPC Biomedical Scientists based in and around Cornwall to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

Your responsibilities:

Day to day activities in your role as HCPC Biomedical Scientist will include:

• The post-holder will assist the management team delivering a quality and responsive clinical and technical service for the Trust and associated stakeholders and partners, providing professional leadership and line management for the staff.
• In conjunction with the senior staff, the post-holder will assist in identifying service pressures and devising action plans or business cases / plans as appropriate.
• The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the department meets quality targets such as turn-around times and consistency of test results.
• Supervise staff, organise and prioritise workload to meet demanding deadlines.
• Ensure lower grades of scientific and scientific support staff comply with Health and Safety protocols as set out in relevant documentation and that laboratory and surrounding area also comply with Health and Safety.
• Assist in the production of all Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory analyses, use of equipment, care of the working environment.
• Engage with the QMS and instil a quality culture in the laboratory.
• Engage in the implementation and development of laboratory systems.
• Engage with the departmental competency programme.
• Ensure that goods are ordered and monitored in a timely fashion.
• Perform appraisals.

Your experience:

In order to be successful in the role of HCPC Biomedical Scientist you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

• Registration with Health and Care Professions Council.
• IBMS accredited degree or equivalent.
• Completed BMS specialist portfolio or completed logbook or other evidence of Specialist knowledge and / or experience e.g. MSc
• C.D.L. or other IT qualifications. (Desirable)
• Participation in CPD.
• Ensure compliance with all local and national standards of work practise e.g. UKAS.
• Maintain the knowledge and expertise necessary to perform specialised procedures.
• Maintain appropriate IT systems and database skills
• Good level of experience of working in a NHS laboratory, which must be post HCPC registration.
• Experience in out-of-hours working
• Able to perform complex laboratory tasks and assays.
• Able to understand and deal with abnormal results.
• Able to deal with IQC and EQA.
