We're currently seeking Newcastle-based Specialist Biomedical Technical Manager to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:

As a Specialist Biomedical Technical Manager, you will have extensive experience in diagnostic techniques and must have Health Professions Council (HPC) State Registration. It is a primary role of the post to provide specialist advice to clinical users regarding service provision and development.

You will be responsible for assisting with the management of the financial and physical resources of the Covid-19 Testing Laboratory to ensure service delivery in line with National, Organisational and Directorate policies.

Your experience:

This role requires you to be experienced in modern laboratory techniques and good knowledge of current professional issues. Current Technical management experience within a clinical laboratory or equivalent experience

In order to be successful, you'll need the following skills and qualifications:


Education:

  • BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent,
  • Professional Registration
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent
  • MSc/FIBMS or Higher Specialist Portfolio
  • Leadership course

Experience:

  • Several years post graduate specialist training.
  • In-depth experience of modern laboratory techniques and good knowledge of current professional issues.
  • Current Technical management experience within a clinical laboratory or equivalent experience
  • Team leadership experience within a clinical laboratory.
  • Experience of highly specialised techniques.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate complex and contentious information to clinicians, staff and others.
  • Ability to motivate and develop others.
  • Day-to-day management of equipment and resources appropriately and cost effectively.
  • Leadership and organisational skills
  • Delegation and presentation skills

In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:

Education:

  • Post Graduate Management/Leadership Diploma or equivalent
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio in discipline

Experience:

  • Recruitment and selection experience
  • Development of business plans
  • Experience of Quality Management Systems and current accreditation standards (ISO15189)

Skills

  • Comprehension of the significance of clinical governance, clinical audit and achieving quality targets
  • Delegation skills.

Please note that as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you are not required to have extensive experience across all of the desirable competencies described above, but applicants are expected to have relevant experience for the competency which they would oversee

This role will be working Monday-Friday, 37.5hrs a week on day shifts.
