Fixed Term Contract

We're currently seeking Associate Practitioners based in and around Bracknell to help support the COVID-19 recovery scheme, working within a high output diagnostics laboratory environment, as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

Your responsibilities:

As an Associate Practitioner, you will contribute to the provision of the clinical laboratory service, as part of a team of Biomedical Scientists and support workers performing work activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. This is an opportunity to take on operational and/or administrative responsibility for a specific area within a laboratory area. Advanced training will be given to allow work without direct supervision, referring to the line manager of the section when required.

You will ensure the safe disposal of specimens and waste and to ensure cleaning and maintenance of work areas and equipment is carried out in accordance with SOP's. On a daily basis you will undertake sample reception, preparation, analysis and recording of results in accordance with approved procedures.

You will be working with and process COVID-19 testing samples, undertaking sample reception, preparation, analysis and recording of results in accordance with approved procedures. You will undertake the reception and checking of specimens and to ensure accurate identification of specimens. It will be your responsibility to accurately enter patient details and required tests into the computer system and to understand which pre examination process is required for each of the samples to be assessed.

As an Associate Practitioner you will liaise with your line manager as part of a team delivering a high quality protocol based technical service under the supervision of scientific staff and will be required to communicate with a range of colleagues and external suppliers/stakeholders. You will also operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform scientific techniques under supervision

Your experience:

In order to be successful, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a relevant laboratory
  • Experience & knowledge of duties required to support senior lab staff gained by experience in a similar role

Education:

  • Good education to A Levels, NVQ 4 or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part 2) or Foundation degree, in a science based subject

  • Willing to undergo relevant training to ensure sound relevant knowledge
